Katrina Hirakis: Discussion Point

Image File Formats:

Something I have struggled with in my high school and now university days has been deciding the most suitable image file format for my work; and this is something only enhanced in this final project for typography.
Some format terminology to start off with:
  1. TIFF = Tagged Image File Format. Widely used in book publishing and other print-related industries, TIFF allows for customisation.
  2. ESP = Encapsulated Post Script. A PostScript file format used to transfer a graphic image between applications and platforms. EPS files contain PostScript code as well as an optional preview image in TIFF, WMF, PICT or EPSI format.
  3. JPEG = Joint Photographic Experts Group. A standard for compressing still images. An image can be saved in high quality for photo printing, in medium quality for the Web and in low quality for attaching to e-mails.
In point, the ideal image file format should be saved in TIFF or EPS format. Though increasingly h
igh-resolution JPEG files are being used in artwork produced for digital printing due to their compression which allows faster delivery times.

This information may have gone in one ear and out the other, but this topic has much significance especially to all of us finishing this major project. We MUST decide on the MOST suitable image file format to achieve the optimum viewing for our work.
