"The image of the University is expressed not only in the name, logo and colours of
its stationery and signage, but also in all printed material concerning each of
the campuses, in the buildings - their location, furnishings and maintenance,
the rites of passage within faculties and departments, and the communications
between students and graduates both on and off campus."
Edith Cowan University (ECU) Corporate Style Guide is an integral part of its image
and hence in order for its identity to be maintained and effective, rules and specifications must be observed and all material must adhere to the style guidelines. Thus its design is a very
effective tool in maintaining control and consistency as any changes have to be approved by the Corporate Marketing Office. The first aspect of the guide describes the logo as this is the key image that appears on all materials. It specifies exact size, position and colour and states "Please do not try to re-create any of the logos shown in this document. This can cause inconsistencies." With a very specific layout all key element of the visual identity are addressed as well as detailed guidelines for their use. It covers all aspects of all faculties as well as specifics of letterheads, brochures, PowerPoint presentations and electronic flyers. It provides specific examples of how each must be followed. For example:
Size: A4 - 210mm wide x 297mm high
Coloured banner: The coloured banner runs across the top of the
letterhead. It is 4mm in height and bleeds off the top of the page. It is made
up of a strip of Red (Pantone 187) which is 176mm in width and Yellow (Pantone
142) which is 34mm in width.
ECU Logo: The ECU promotional logo is located 6mm in from the
right hand edge of the page, the top of the logo is 12mm from the top of the
page and is 28mm wide.
Contact details: The contact details are located 5mm below the
base of the ECU promotional logo. The copy is 7pt type on 8.5pt leading in
Arial Regular. The faculty details are all in caps.

details. Vice-Chancellor variation: The ECU in the logo is embossed.
