Excellent stuff!!

Welcome back from mid-semester break everyone. I hope you are all recharged and ready to get stuck into the next phase of the course - the creation of an online magazine.

I was so impressed with the responses to the research on Style Guides and also the great work the group has done in the first project. You've achieved a lot!

Ok...firstly you'll find the new online lecture deals with the all important topic of visual hierarchy and grids - essential reading at this early stage of developing approaches to the new project.

Also to support the lecture and provide a bit of additional inspiration I'm posting some video and links. See them as resources that should help you contextualise the lecture and provide some additional insights into the project.

So first - more information about typographic hierarchy - actually one of a series of good videos on type by Tony Pritchard that you can access in Vimeo.

This second video is an excellent insight into the ideas of Wim Crouwell - perhaps the godfather of grid. Definitely worth the time to view it. I am unable to embed it here but follow this link to view.

Finally I think that the new project is a great opportunity to experiment with type and this work by Tien-Min Liao on Handmade Type may well get you thinking about how you might treat type in the project in unusual ways. Something to discuss in the group.

Tien-Min describes this work as "...self-initiated typographic experiment that explores the relationships between upper-case letters and lower-case letters, and also records the transformation between them."

So again, welcome back and enjoy your week!!
