Discussion Point - Printer's Marks

Printer's marks are something that I had never considered before or even heard of for that matter. After having done further research I have determined that printer's marks are actually very important. One must include printer's marks when preparing a document for print. There are three kinds of printer's marks:

1. Trim Marks: These are thin vertical and horizontal lines that indicate where the printer is to trim the paper.

2. Registration Marks: They are small indicators outside the page area for "aligning the different separations in a color document". This ensures that there will not be blurring along the edges of the images.

3. Color Bars: Are squares of colour that represent CMYK and shades of grey outside of the page area. These are to help the printer with color consistency.

To add printer's marks (in InDesign):
Go to File and click Print.
Select "Marks & Bleed" and choose the printer's marks that you want.
