Challenging typographical conventions is great for pushing boundaries and creating an avant-garde motif towards the design outcome however in most cases, having a distinct and conventional rule to follow allows for crisp designs.  Personally, I enjoy when designers reach to new extents to captivate the audience in new and varied ways.  It provides a certain aesthetic that appeals, because of its raw and unique creativeness.

Although pushing boundaries allows for a 'free' sensation when coming into terms of design, the ability to create a conventional design while following specific rules indicates for a greater outcome for success for clients and audiences.  An example of conventional design is by Graphic Designer, Mayaan Pearl.  Her work is based upon predominantly publications and editorial illustrations.  One example, is her work for Print Magazine.

Mayaan follows proper typographical conventions that not only provides an ideal presence if livelihood but also conveys a certain aesthetic that definitely appeals.  Her usage of clean and simplistic type allows for an easy and accesible read and a straight forward grid is suitable for the intended layout and design.

Conversely, a design that rebels against traditions and purposely breaks the rules of traditional conventions is an example of Natalie Fitzgerald's work.  Her work projects how she utilises different layouts within her grids within her publications.

Her ability to create a unique experience is also ideal to captivate the audience by contesting the norm of all design, and thus senses a different touch to the aesthetic she is portraying.

All in all, I believe that breaking the rules once in a while is good to relieve a boring nature to any other design but in the long run, most clients want the product.  Essentially.  Therefore, following the designated and proper typographical conventions is important to the creation of design and thus communicates the product efficiently.
